Introduction

Back in 2004 Joe did a review of the Sovereign 2000 2pdr Anti Tank Gun and in 2006 I did a review of the 2pdr Crew (is it that long ago!). Anyway, recently I purchased their 2pdr ammo set, as I have both the Vulcan 2pdr and several Matilda’s to build.

Both these reviews can be found here on site:

Sovereign 2000 Reviews

This is a brief look at the quality and contents of set No S2KA001.

The Set

The set comes packed in a smart cardboard box which displays the manufacturers and product details. On the top is a picture of the painted boxes that may aid painting.

The set is contained in a zip plastic bag and the parts are cast in a cream coloured resin. The casting looks excellent and the detail sharp. So what’s in this set?

The set contains 12 x Ammo Boxes, 4 of these are shown open with the liners inside and 4 tops are provided for these boxes. In addition you get 10 x liners and again 4 of these are shown open with the rounds visible and they also come complete with top lids. To round off the set you get 10 x shells and 10 x empty shell castings.

The 8 closed boxes show rope carrying handles on the sides and the two clip locks in place over the closed lids. The 4 open boxes also show the rope carrying handles but with the clip locks open and down across the side which is a neat touch. These also display two liners containing shells within the box and as mentioned the removed upper lid.

The liners are also nicely done with 6 being closed and 4 being open. Inside the open liners are 8 shell base plates. Both the closed liners and 4 liner lids show the carrying handle for the liners.

The 10 shell casings have a small indent where the round would have fitted, these might need a little drilling out and the 10 shells will need careful removal from the stub so that you don’t cut off the end of the shell case.

A sharp razor saw and modellers knife will be needed to clean of the pour stubs and obviously normal safety precautions apply when working with resin.

Conclusion

This is an excellent set of ammo boxes, liners and shells and should be more than sufficient for any planned display of the 2 pdr anti tank gun. This set will also be useful for arming any appropriate tank or for general use around a diorama.

The detail looks good and Sovereign have provided a very good set of accessory parts with nice variety, and thought toward the builder.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Hi Alan. Good review. One thing I like about this set is how much you get in the box. Enough for a quite busy diorama. Nice one.
