Introduction

We did not have to wait too much time to see an aftermarket company release some updates for the MTVR kit. Real Model has just released a resin wheel set for the Trumpeter MTVR. Real Model themselves, need no further introduction!

Six resins wheels without hub covers

Review

The MTVR is equipped with 6 wheels equipped with a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS).The tires used are Michelin 52x16.00R20 XZL Michelin tubeless. The central hub is marked with the Oshkosh logo.
The Real Model kit contains the following: six resins wheels without hub covers with the back connector. The casting is of a very good quality and no air bubbles were present in my review sample. The wheels are perfectly round shape with no discrepancies and have a nice weighted look to them. The 52x16.00R20 XZL is rendered perfectly to scale and I did not notice any dimension discrepancy.
Assembly is very straight forward, you just need to glue the plastic part C1 to the hub. The injection plugs are also really small and can be easily removed. All the wheels display a subtle bulge which is not to exaggerated. Seam lines as shown on the original parts have been removed. Moreover, the gap between the wheel and hub as seen on the plastic one has been filled. this is one of the major advantages when using this set.
The engraving of the side of the tire has been improved and the small rubber patch from the manufacturer is also visible.

conclusion

In conclusion, this set is a great addition to the MTVR kit. All the items are easy to use and highly recommended

Good review thanks! In future could you please post comparison pics with the kit wheels when you review aftermarket wheels? Helps us see if there is a significant advantage in buying resin wheels. For instance I love DEF Model wheels but I decided against ordering some of their sets recently when comparison with hi-res photos of the products on their website showed only marginal improvement in appearance. Trumpeter wheels in their latest kits especially look really great out of the box. And yes I know about those who prefer resin over vinyl any day, or sagged wheels over normal wheels, that was not my point... Cheers, Christophe

yeah good point! Though I reckon its not a given that the reviewer will also have the parts which are intended to be replaced by the resin items.
