A new release coming from Dragon Models features a prototype of the famous Tiger I.
Dragon Models has announced a Tiger I Ausf.H2. The Tiger H2 was a prototype from Henschel using a turret design similar to that of the Panther that would mount the 75mm KwK.42. Only one prototype of the H2 was built, mounting a wooden turret as Henschel focuses more on the H1 variant which sported an 88mm Kwk.36. The Tiger H2 though is an interesting prototype and the turret is stated to be brand new tooling.

According to Dragon Models USA this new kit should be available in September 2014.

hmmmm.. looks like they didn't do much but add a new turret to an existing hull .. David isn't the hull a bit too late for the prototype ?? I have no idea but seems to me some of the features are off.. I'm sure you'll set Dragon straight before the kit comes out . Rick

Yes, Richard, this turret would have existed from Tiger 250100 onwards if it had been used; it would be on the Bovington Tiger. So, I am suggesting that they use an Early hull rather than a Mid. But they're both equally valid. David

I'm liking this specifically for the hull. I could get a few of these, use some aftermarket Early/Mid turrets and I can forego fishing for discontinued and overpriced (in some cases) DML Tiger I kits. But, hey, that's just me.

Finally! A Tiger! Wow! After so many years.... I ever wanted to build a Tiger and there smply was no kit on the market. Thanks a lot Dragon........... What will be next? May I dare to hope for a Pz. III or a StuG?

I've got the MR Model turret for this, oh well it may end up being more accurate? Christophe

An interesting prototype.

I'm now checking the final box images for this kit. You may be interested to know that the hull is from the same era as the recent Dragon kit #9142, that is, about April 1943. The hull roof plate has been changed to accommodate the different turret. I don't yet know what they've done with the wheels, but I'll keep you posted. David

Update; the wheels will be the same "connected" ones from 9142, but Dragon state that they've fixed the problem with the idler wheel.

Thanks for the insider info David! Cheers, Christophe
